The theme situation with Google Chrome baffled me from the very beginning. Nearly every theme available breaks every basic rule of UI design, which is the reason I choose to stick with the default skin for the application. To get an idea of what I mean, take the theme designed by Google titled ” Greyscale”. Now, this is a simple, and very basic theme, but it still has many problems. Take the way it decides to reskin the basic foreword, back, refresh, and home buttons. The foreword and back buttons no longer indicate clearly whether it is possible to execute their action—you cannot see whether they are active because of their lack of defined color. A flaw like this is minor, but effects my everyday use of the application. It seems clear that UI designers at Google(oxymoron?) are not thinking things out.
